MEET DYANNA!

Pronounced di-ana! (Spelt with a 2 N’s and a Y)
What did you do prior to working at Keep a Child Alive?
I’ve worked in fundraising for many years, primarily in organizations dealing with children’s issues. Working for nonprofits seems to be part of my DNA. That said, I did take a turn at capitalism and owned a clothing boutique in Seattle. But, I always made sure that the store partnered with nonprofits and supported local artists! How did you first get involved with Keep a Child Alive?
I love this organization- it is amazing! I remember seeing the “I am African” campaign and thinking it was brilliant. Over the years, I have seen Alicia speak so passionately about the organization, and have always been moved by its work. A few months ago I came back from visiting Spain and a friend told me about the open position at KCA. I met with Peter, some of the staff and a few board members and knew I had found my place. There is so much passion around here! What does a day look like in the life of Dyanna?
I wish I could say I started each day at 6am with yoga! But I am more likely to hit the snooze alarm. (PM workouts are more my thing). My day is a good kind of hectic at KCA. Each day is a little different and I love that! But every day I talk to some of our generous supporters and it is truly inspiring how much they believe in the work of KCA. I am also inspired by my co-workers in so many ways and truly appreciate the family-feel they create in the office.
At the end of the day, life is about balance. So I work hard for KCA and the beautiful people we serve and then I find some me time!

What is your favorite part of the job?
The passion, support and collaboration I experience every day. Whether it is through our supporters, my colleagues or our board members. Also, we are very fortunate to have Peter’s strong leadership. Oh, and that I can bring Shea (my dog) to work! That just screams healthy work environment. What do you do outside of Keep a Child Alive?
I love music, travel, sand, exploring Brooklyn, reading anything by Dave Eggers, spending time with people I love. I really like being around funny people. When not at Keep a Child Alive, Shea lives for a belly rub and a competitive game of tug-of-war.
Describe yourself in 3 words.
Yikes. This is hard. Loving, loyal, and fiercely-determined.What’s your favorite color or food?
Green. I like green food, too.
Here’s a shot of Shae giving us a smile. We love when she comes to visit!
