  1. Day 3 - The Rajpurohit Children: Keeping Siblings Together

    Monday, May 2, 2011

There is something special about being able to care for entire families, in addition to individual adults and children. Keep a Child Alive is proudly able to care for a group of siblings who need assistance at our sites in Africa and India. Today, we introduce you to three siblings that are currently being cared for at RNP+ (Rajasthan Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS) in India. Brother and sisters Arjun, Pooja and Kankar Rajpurohit have found loving caretakers at RNP+ after facing difficulties at home. Their mother is HIV+ and is shunned by the children’s uncle and grandmother because of her illness. Their mother is often sick, and has not been able to secure a dependable income to care for all of her children.

Thanks to Keep a Child Alive and the caring staff at this center, these three children are being cared for, together, in a safe and welcoming environment. Pooja and Kankar have tested positive for HIV, but all three children are able to grow, attend school and not regularly face rough grandparents. All three of these lovable children dream of becoming teachers when they finish their schooling, and actually prefer living at the care home than their family home. These three children are able to stay together and workers at RNP+ have reported complete happiness in their care home.

Because of Keep a Child Alive’s work, children like Arjun, Pooja and Kankar are able to be cared for, and allow them access to longer and healthier lives.
