  1. KCA Surpasses Goal of 100,000 Texts!

    Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Thanks to the astounding generosity of American Idol’s audience, Keep a Child Alive has already surpassed our goal of 100,000 texts and the texts keep coming, each one offering a new chance to save a life.  American Idol viewers’ compassion, generosity and willingness to act are already making a difference.

In the wake of this amazing outpouring of support, KCA co-founders Alicia Keys and Leigh Blake have declared that we’re now shooting for the stars, to keep the texts coming in over the next weeks to make sure as many dreams as possible can have a chance to come true.

Dreams like those of Noah, to whom millions of Americans were introduced last Wednesday when he displayed his incredible rapping skills on American Idol.  As a HIV-positive boy living an impoverished and malnourished life in the slums of Kigali, Rwanda, he held fast to the dream of sharing his music with the world.  Through KCA’s relief efforts, Noah was able to receive crucial anti-retroviral medication which has allowed him to live to see his dream realized in ways he never could have imagined, including a recent collaboration with superstar producer Swizz Beatz.

Every time anyone texts the word ‘ALIVE’ to 90999, $5 will be donated to the important work of keeping dreams possible. As over 100,000 Americans have already proven, real idols are regular people who use what they’ve got to make a difference in the lives of others.  As Alicia Keys pointed out, “No matter how much or how little we each have, when we pull together we have the power to change the world.”

KCA President Leigh Blake says that the beauty of the campaign is that saving lives couldn’t be easier. “All you have to do is text the word ‘ALIVE’ to 90999, and when you receive a confirmation message, reply by hitting ‘YES’ to donate $5 to KCA. That’s a YES that confirms your commitment to wiping out HIV/AIDS, and a YES to helping thousands of real life idols like Noah make their dreams come true.”
